2/1 On/Off Part 1
Day Zero, Wednesday: I deleted my tv apps, instagram, and facebook before bed (1am).
Day One: Thursday: I woke up at 9am and lasted until 11am when I re-installed prime video. I felt the itch for instagram all day but didn't reinstall it until after my painting class when I wanted to post my work. I like the validation. I couldn't resist when I got home, and posted a photo of my painting (7pm). I checked for likes every minute after that. I did not reinstall facebook. Maybe tomorrow I can last longer with instagram. I don't think i can without prime video... but we’ll see. I deleted instagram at midnight and went to bed.
Day Two, Friday: Woke up at 9:45 am. I felt the need to check how many likes I got on my post. At 9:57am, I felt the need again. At 11:59am I reinstalled prime video. At 4:16pm I felt the urge again. I reinstalled instagram at 5:48pm, and then deleted it at 5:50pm.
Day Three, Saturday: I reinstalled all apps. I checked instagram and facebook each once (10:46am), then again when i got home from my walk to/in central park. At 3:45pm I checked instagram again. At 9:28pm I posted photos from my trip to the park. After posting the photos, I had to turn my phone face down so I wouldn't get distracted while doing homework. The notifications were making me edgy.
Day 4, Sunday: Now that I haven't posted anything today, I don't stress nearly as much about checking for likes- it’s more of a casual boredom that drives me to look at instagram. After these four days, facebook doesn't seem to be my problem at all. Prime video is definitely a distracting issue, but one I realize I simply need to limit to when I’m having meals and maybe right before bed. When I watch instead of doing homework, then it becomes a problem- I need to be vigilant with myself.
What I learned was that I have a serious addiction to prime video and instagram, more so prime video because I am enjoying the show I'm watching- It's long and easy to binge. I'm not entirely sure on how to help myself. Being vigilant doesn't exactly work. As soon as I finish this show, I'm hoping I don't find a new one to get addicted to. When I have nothing to binge, I'm fine. As far as instagram, when I don't post anything, I have nothing to worry about.
