7/1 Audacity Composition: Hobbits on the subway

For this piece, I first recorded three different sounds: the express subway train moving at high speed in the middle platform, my refrigerator, and voices with clanging dishes at a restaurant. For the instrument portion, I chose a couple of recordings I made of myself playing the violin. I put all of the sounds into audacity and played them all at once just to see the effect. I wanted to make it sound like I was playing my violin on the subway platform. In order to do so, I had to apply fade ins and outs to all of the tracks, duplicate the subway track to make it seem like there were multiple trains passing through, cut some of the tracks a little short and extend others, amplify the violin, and reduce all other sounds.

  1. Hi Danielle. For this project I thought it was really interesting to listen to your audacity project and then read your intentions behind it and relisten. It really gave the project an entirely new meaning. I also enjoyed that you included a photo of what your audacity screen looked like because it gave me a better understanding of what I was hearing and how you went about altering the sounds.
